My daughter was accepted into walls and she had 3 friends who also were accepted but one’s moving and another is still deciding between it or JR. She’s heard of some other people from her school also being accepted but she’s not really friends with them so idk. Of course high school is a time to make new friends but I’m concerned for her because she has social anxiety and doesn’t like approaching new people. We’ll just have to see how it goes, maybe the smaller environment will help her get out of her shell. If anyone has any tips please reply.

No. You're not the only one. My kid doesn't know anyone. We're just making sure he attends the summer orientation / bridge.

Pending means that your child got in and you are pending enrollment paperwork. If you want to enroll I would contact the school.

We are in the same situation as PP.

Since Walls doesn't have a feeder middle school, it isn't uncommon for kids to not know anyone. It is a clean slate for everyone.

Definitely not. My kid is moving from a charter school to JR and is worried that everyone from Deal will already know each other and it will be hard to make friends in such a big environment. I'm less worried--DC is friendly and outgoing--and I'm trying to assuage their fears.

As a kid from deal we definitely don’t all know each other cause the school is so big and everyone is so different. I’m sure many people would be excited to make a new friend so you should tell ur kid that.

Thank you! I appreciate the comment, kid from Deal!

Knowing people doesn't mean being friends with them, or even wanting to be. I'm sure there will be some kids very happy to have your DC as a new friend.

In case anyone missed it, data is now posted on the total number of applicants for each school. Some highlights:

SWW: 1,527 applicants (181 matched; 132 waitlisted)

Banneker: 1,291 applicants (245 matched; 1 waitlisted)

McKinley: 1,271 applicants (247 matched; 1 waitlisted)

Ooh I am loving this. So we have it for all schools and can calculate a percentage of applicants that matched, which gives a clue as to how people are ranking. Fascinating.

So, basically, McKinley Tech has just under the percentage of students admitted that Banneker does. Both are right around 20% admitted. Both are hard to get into.

And that's if you're not rated "ineligible"-- and that can happen to kids with great stats.
