Lottery Results - High School

I’m pulling out the high school discussion from previous threads. It’s a lot to sift through. To elementary and middle school parents - I’ve been there and I sympathize. I just can’t relive all of those years at the same time I’m focused on ans lamenting high school options.

So high school parents, how are you all feeling this morning?

Great!

Disappointed. Will be so curious to find out the application vs. accepted numbers. DC got rejected by #1 and waitlisted by #2 after interviews at both. We know others in similar situations. Maybe the application pool was just huge this year?

We made it to the family interview at Duke Ellington so were really hopeful, but nope. Ineligible. My fairly shy, introverted kid worked so hard on their portfolio. They've been wanting to attend ever since they learned about the school a few years ago. I keep wondering what we did wrong at that last step. We're all so sad.

Our son is going to McKinley Tech.

He was not interviewed at Banneker or Walls, so we hoped this was coming but have had weeks to come to terms with him not getting into his first choice school.

I think it was just a very competitive year.

And I hope future parents will take away from this that applying to McKinley Tech is a good option if your in bounds school is not good because, from what we have seen, it's a good school and miles better than our in bounds.

You did not do anything wrong. There are many factors at play here. Any given year, any other reviewer/interviewer, etc. It’s all by chance. Celebrate the hard work your child out into school, take a few days to breathe and release ans then start to consider other options. Sorry you did not get what you wanted. Likely a better path down the road.

Waitlisted at MacArthur (unexpected), Latin (expected) and Sojounrer Truth (unexpected). Not a good day.

Based on this year’s results, I have to think MA is going to take off, despite the difficulties with the facility and location.

Sorry. This is so rough. I thought the family interview was a pretty good sign. My child didn’t get a family interview when I thought her portfolio was quite good. She is also super shy but felt good about the interview. Oh well.

"Ineligible" at both SWW and Banneker, despite interviewing at both. DC is so sad.

This is so bogus. I don't understand why the schools didn't just waitlist all the kids who interviewed. Sends a very bad (and inappropriate/inaccurate - "you had great grades and recs so we gave you an interview but you were so bad at interview we won't even waitlist you"??? WTF!) message IMO.

I’m really proud of all the kids. It’s a bummer that it all still comes down to a lottery ultimately and I wish the process at each school was a lot clearer. Or there was enough time to give kids feedback so it wasn’t such a black hole of wondering. Know that disappointment is a part of life, but it’s hard
