One thing I notice a lot of parents saying is that they appreciate that Catholic schools have very transparent and reasonable grading standards.
Many UMC parents are tired of the opaque standards at "Big 3" schools. They're tired of English teachers that force every student to fight for the one "A" in class. Many "elite" prep schools assign difficult work (which is fine) but give vague feedback on graded essays, tests, etc. Even math courses at these schools can be graded arbitrarily, and the tests are written in ways that are very difficult to prepare for. I feel confident that if I send my kid to, say, SJC or Gonzaga, they can realistically get Ivy-quality grades if they put in the effort, and they'll be far less stressed than trying the same thing at a Big 3. |
Actually this thread is about high schools. High schools by and large are not associated with specific parishes. So your support for your parish doesn't impact any of the high schools in the DMV. Of course, this doesn't mean you can't have an opinion. |
I guess the question is why they feel compelled to have an opinion every single day when they have no insights. Who makes up all these expulsion and subversion stories and threats?! They really concern the parents |
*Actually* Catholics don’t only support their parishes. They often donate to the archdiocese which supports HSs in various ways. |
| DP. I think it is interesting. Everyone thinks these schools are simply cheaper than other privates. They are, but the other reality is that the community financially supports non- independent Catholic (parish/ diocesan) schools helping managing the tuition costs. |
| Because the teachers’ unions are a vile, evil that has destroyed the public school system. |
I wish there was an exorcism we could perform on anti-other folks who spew bile |
Ok; and so they are cheaper. Cost/quality. End of story. Move on. |

The location and price worked.
While Burke and SSFS accepted the kids, the cost was too high. |
| My public school kids are Catholic. We couldn't afford tuition for K-8 plus high school so we picked the one we thought would be most impactful. |
Exactly. That drew us to OLV. It’s not like we were choosing between the Episcopal and OLV or OLV and the Beverly Hills High (I know OLV is not a high school; just using knowable names in making a point for the horrible haters who don’t have kids in any of these schools) |
| DEI and Equity focus instead of education |

Check, but you don’t have kids. Cool

Overall decline of public school systems across the U.S. Open border's impact on public schools, especially in 'super zip code' regions like DMV. DMV is one of the wealthiest regions in the U.S., so plethora of two-parent households can afford private, plus have trusts and inheritance. Covid remote schooling, high-def cell phone video, and social media have exposed public schools - even "good" (read wealthy) public school districts - as zoos run by complete moron and subversive board members, principals, and "doctor" superintendents with fake online doctorate degrees. |
