My kid goes to Towson.
I know everyone jokes that the kids who end up at Towson, didn't get into Maryland (and mine didn't, lol) but I have to tell you... my kid LOVES Towson!

She loves where she lives, it's like a little town all unto itself, everything is easy and walkable (I've heard that each dorm on campus is like that too) she has places like chik-fil-a, Starbucks and panda express right there on campus next to her dorm, whatever she doesn't use in food points from the food program each month, she can use in the huge school stores that carry everything (makeup, groceries, clothing, etc) and the actual town of Towson is quite literally a great college town -- its got fantastic options for shopping, restaurants, a night out fun, etc.b and everything is walkable.

My daughter didn't take high school as seriously as she should have, and although we tried to get her to buckle down, she was getting A's, mostly B's and a handful of C's over her 4 years in high school.
She assumed she could get into UMD with those grades, because... well, I'll be honest, life has been very easy for her thus far, she's naturally easy going, witty, athletic and very personalable, so she assumed she'd get into UMD simply on her grades & sparkling personality... but NOPE, didn't happen, lol!

Boy, did she get a SERIOUS reality check when they denied her.

We tried everything to get her to bring her grades up in HS, but she was more interested in socializing, sports & her volunteering, and because teachers always took such a liking to her and she succeeded in everything she put her mind to, she just assumed that a 3.25 GPA would be good enough for UMD (obviosly it wasn't).

So, when she got to Towson, she buckled down,l (most of her friends go to UMD so she wanted to go there also).
She told us that she would fix her grades and transfer to UMD after one year.

She ended up getting a 4.0 GPA at Towson, she still played her competitive sport (that they have at UMD) she reapplied and was accepted.

However... when she went to visit UMD, she was extremely overwhelmed by the sheer size and how huge the campus was -- some of her friends said that their classes are almost a mile away from each other.
Some of her friends are really struggling at UMD too, which intimidated/scared her.

So after being at a much smaller campus, going to a school with 40,000 kids (compared to 18,000 at Towson) she decided to stay put at Towson.

She really became invested in not just her grades, but life at Towson -- she became a Tridelta (which she loves) plays her sport, she enjoys the school and the kids who go there are really nice, and she's doing really well... it seems to be a really great fit for her.

Although, UMD is a MUCH easier/quicker drive for us than to Towson (that drive is a boring nightmare!) we're thrilled that it's such a good pace for her & such a great fit.

So, good for your kid going to Salisbury, I hope they have a great first year!
Congratulations to them!

I love this! I already posted that my DD is going to Towson, and she actually chose it over UMD (got into UMD for spring semester). UMD is a great school, but I don't think it's right for everyone, and I don't think it would have been right for DD. She's excited about Towson and I'm excited for her. And to the PP with the kid going to Salisbury, I'm also happy for you and them!

Congratulations to her!
I'm the PP above, and my daughter is in Glen Towers - Tower A and it's everything your daughter could ever want.
The towers were completely renovated this past summer and they're beautiful!

Each room controls their own heat/air conditioning, plus instead of being in a dark, dingy basement, the laundry room is on the 2nd floor of an open floor plan room, with ceiling to floor windows with tons of natural light, and bright but soft lighting in the evening.

After you put your laundry in, nobody can remove it, because it locks and only you know the code to open the washer/dryer your clothes are in.
You can view the machines through your phone and you get a notification when your wash is done through text.

They take security SUPER seriously there too -- to get in the dorms, you need to scan your key card to get inside of the building from outside, then you need to show your ID card to the 24 hour a day/7 day a week security guard (whose desk is right there when you walk in) every single time you enter that building, then you need to use your key card to even call the elevator downstairs, and then again to use the elevator. It is NO joke.
There is no way that anyone can get into those dorms that shouldn't be there.

There's so much more that I could share, but I don't want to bore any of these other parents, lol!

Just want to say how much I enjoy this nice, celebratory thread. It’s so interesting that by leaving stats out of the equation, people don’t feel the constant need to compete/analyze and can simply be happy for one another

Thank you from the PP you were replying to. Love the info about the laundry! Also, I did know that one of the towers was renovated - do you know what the other towers are like?

I LOVED my time at UIUC. It is all a rigorous, large state school in the middle of the cornfields should be. I felt sad for my friends who went to college in downtown Chicago because it felt like much less of a college experience when I visited them than did life in "Shampoo-Banana." And it felt more fun than the other I State schools (Iowa, Indiana) to which we would road trip.

I hope your child enjoys it tremendously!
