| I have only donated to a few, all for people suffering from cancer. And all for people in my community who I don’t know well enough that I’d be dropping by w food or sending a card but still want to help in some small way and know how quickly expenses add up, even if you have a lot of savings and great health insurance. Treatments often cause people to miss work and many people who miss work are not being paid… |
Agreed. |
When one kids got really sick, and needed a ventilator and someone awake and watching him 24/7, someone started a GoFundMe for our family. It meant I could quit my job, and that my other kids, who were "living" and "able" could stay in their neighborhood, and their school, and their activities, and my DH didn't have to add a ton of overtime and could take off work for particularly major medical appointments etc . . ., and to be with our sick kid so I could give undivided attention to my other kids. |
How much did you make? |
I made about $80K, DH about $100K depending on how much overtime he worked. We had savings, but not enough savings to lose a second income for years, and to cover increased medical bills and travel to out of state specialists. |
|
Really? The very tragic ones I will donate too
|
|
Some of them are, but it's not because of who started the page.
Serious needs are never tacky. I don't care who creates the Go Fund Me. Some people don't have enough friends or relatives who care, so they have to do it themselves. I donated to a political refugee's appeal for funds to start a farm. I know this family to be hardworking. They are extremely deserving, and I was happy to help them. |
| I agree in part, but not all the way. One of the MyGym instructors suddenly died--he was the sweetest guy, a gentle giant. Our DD loved going there and he was so tender. He died and someone posted the sister's GoFundMe and we gave. It was just the only thing we could do. |
ITTTTA. Also they don't care what OP thinks. |
I mean on gfm |
Oh, I thought you were going to judge me if I was too rich before! People were very generous. |
| I am 30+ years old and a girl I went to HS with recently passed tragically. Her parents have posted their venmo accounts saying for those "who would like to offer assistance". I mean this sincerely, what would be the reasoning for this? She is their adult daughter |
Same. I'm partial to the ones where kids die in a fire. |
Because they are tacky. |
beyond bizarre. |
