Places that don’t give you free water

Please don't complain when your continued whining about this causes them to close. These local restaurants don' t have a lot of margin for profit, and here is someone publicly badmouthing them all over social media over a cup of water. Even if the OP wasn't the one who spread this to Tom Seitsema, the VA Foodies Facebook group and Reddit, it is obviously causing a big stir that the shop may not be able to endure long term. Over tap water.

Agree! People should bring their own damn water.

The waste aspect will likely be gov mandated, especially in a place like the Town of Vienna. I’d get used to it. They state they will happily fill your refillable bottle with filtered water. If you don’t like it, go to Starbucks. Plenty of others will happily go there for breakfast burritos and better (but not great) coffee

OP here: I don’t disagree. We are happy with the option to opt for no-cutlery in take out orders, return used plates to tray, separate our waste into recyclables and compost etc.

The shop brought it on themselves. If they don’t how how to be smart businesspeople whose fault is that? Stop blaming others for everything.

I think fundamentally you don’t understand that when you serve food in a dine-in setting, providing water is the norm. If it was a dedicated coffee shop or just a drive-through or a stand-alone coffee truck, it would be different. If the store wants to create an additional revenue-stream by selling bottled water, that’s fine but does stand out compared to other places.

A customer isn’t there to research a thesis on the rights to serve water.

You don't understand the norm is changing. Free water isn't going to be provided forever everywhere. Get with it or dehydrate

I also don’t notice any badmouthing. It seems to be mostly factual with people on both sides of the issue. You probably also missed the comments where people are discussing norms in other countries. This all seems pretty civil and on point except for the random comment from someone with a brain tumor (but that’s DCUM) for you.
