Why do I feel so great on prednisone?

Anonymous
This is a wonder drug for me. I’ve had different inflammatory issues and have been on it twice or so in 12 months.

I’ve been depressed and anxious but now feel pretty good.

Obviously, prednisone also gives me more energy.

Gosh, I wish it was safe to be on this all the time.

It makes me feel crazy. I cannot sit down. I just run around and my mind races and I feel awful. Like I am crawling out of my skin.

I took prednisone for 5 days. I felt like a goddess - powerful and wonderful. I didn't sleep at all. It took over 6 months to recover from it, though, the rashes and adrenal imbalance and irritability and anger.

Same with me. Prednisone gets rid of the inflammation in my body so I feel like a million bucks when I take it. Everything gets better: from nasal congestion (due to allergies) to back pain and knee pain, etc. Too bad it has such terrible side effects!

I was on it several years ago and cleaned and organized the entire house. I was so motivated and energized.

I’ve had the same effects with dexamethasone. I felt fabulous that week. I miss it. Oh well…..

I went on this and suddenly in my mid 50s was doing 2 stairs at a time which I used to do in my 20s ad 30s.

but it also grew tumors in my head so I've had cranial surgery.

Its' great until it isn't.

Oh yeah get all your chores and exercise done those first few weeks while you can. After that, it’s a plummet. When I was prescribed long term (6 months with taper) prednisone, I didn’t just jog, I sprinted for two-three miles. My house was spotless. I had so much energy. But beware the long term effect and then the taper. It’s not fun.

Wow, I’m opposite. I had a 5 day course and it made me crazy. I felt anxious, thirsty non stop and had a panic attack.

I'm on one of those big 5-day packs of prednisone right now. And it's doing absolutely nothing. I feel like I'm taking sugar pills. It's not helping anything but at least I'm not getting any negative side effects.

The downside is that I can't take anything else that might be helpful right now. No other NSAIDS. And, I have to taper off and can't just stop them.

You aren't manic are you? I have bipolar and steroids can make me manic.

Lucky you. It makes me insomniac but tired during the day so that I can’t focus. And I gain weight always.

Buffalo hump, osteoporosis, psychosis, drug induced diabetes- just make sure you’re not on it long-term or this will happen

Well, it's because you have inflammatory disorders that majorly impact your mood and ability to function and prednisone fixes that.

I know this sounds trite and annoying but try a gulten free diet. After about three months of not eating gluten I felt about how I did when I was on prednisone and eating gluten. I also have some pretty big inflammatory disorders.
