| My twins (B/G) both are looking to move to the next level in soccer, but want to continue to play their seasonal school sports. Will most coaches in this area allow them to drop down training days to accommodate school teams (not for soccer)? I know I'm asking for a scheduling nightmare |
| Unlikely, and even if they did, good luck getting playing time in soccer. These levels are not for multi-sport athletes. |
|
They can do other sports as long as they always pick soccer if there is a conflict.
I actually thought that was fair, until we had the experience of the practices for the top team constantly changing. If there are field space issues (which is always the problem in this area), I don't understand why the top team doesn't get the preference. Also, it is amazing to me that the DAY of the ECNL game for April 2024 is scheduled in August 2023, but the TIME of that game isn't scheduled until the week before. Our kid puts soccer first, but he now has academic extracurriculars along with other sports, and the 'top team demands' have been very unpleasant when both practice times and game times are frequently unknown/changing. |
| Depend on the coach and the club. It’s big no no to miss practices every week for another school sports though esp if you are at the top level. My kid plays for top team and she maybe missed once or twice of club practice but she showed up 3 times a week usually regardless of school sports. |

Soccer will take precedence, but my daughter ECNL team is in support of her running HS indoor (winter) and HS outdoor (spring) track. Scheduling is a little more favorable with her attending a MD high school and playing on a Va ECNL team. While most of her teammates will be playing hs spring soccer, my daughter will be running track. We communicated with the coaches and they were in support. With that being said, the fall will be year 1 of ECNL and on a new team.

| HS sports teams are the ones with no flexibility. Good luck. |
|
If your kid is really good at the school sport, the school will make it work.
My son plays ECNL, and also varsity baseball, and the baseball coach has been flexible in letting him miss stuff for soccer. |
NP. This is an interesting strategy. My 9th grade DS has been able to manage ECNL and spring track so far, but only because his soccer practices are late. Does your child play soccer for her HS in the fall? How hard is that to manage with a Fsll club soccer season? |
Currently in 8th. Will be a freshman in the fall. |
I see you are looking to run your DD into the ground. Good luck with that. |
Is playing soccer year round running DD into the ground? |
| Soccer can"take priority" until the HS coach tells you that their sport takes priority- including evening practices, team dinners and weekend meets. Good luck. |
