Can anyone explain why there is no school on Tuesday June 4?

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Why would you impose on families a random-ass Tuesday off in June? Why not just make it a 3 day weekend?

This new calendar is AWFUL. I WANT NAMES.

Take off Monday and make it a 4 day weekend.

Maybe petition the city to no longer use schools for voting.

Your outrage is definitely over the top.

It's primary day and many/most schools are polling locations.

Because DCPS.

See this is how incompetent people keep getting elected...Understand key election dates in your community! Lots of schools in this country are voting centers.

Primary Day is General Election Day in DC. Which is ironically why our schools are some of the worst in the country along with most all the other red and blue one party states.

My school was a polling center when I was a kid. We were open on election days, they just roped off the gym. It’s far from necessary to close schools just because of Election Day.

My current DCPS kid’s DCPS elementary school was open on Election Day back when my kid was in Pre-K. Then Sandy Hook happened (and Comet, and Burke, etc., etc.) and people began to look differently at the security problem.

They should just take schools out of the equation then. With all of the libraries and rec centers available, plus the early voting, that would give people ample opportunity to vote.

Do we still do the super centers like during the pandemic? Voting at the arena was a real hoot.

+1

You have to let a bunch of random people into a school building on elections day while class is in session. It’s a safety issue. I agree with another poster that they should just use libraries and rec centers

Teachers want the day off. That's it. That's the only reason.

An election that virtually no one bothers to vote in. But, sure, let's cancel school.

Actually they did a survey a few years ago and did what parents asked for—no half days (extends the year four days), spring break always aligned to emancipation day (one less day off but not aligned to Easter). When DCPS asks for your option, give it to them.
