The official MLB bag policy is that "Any bag larger than a 5” by 7” by ¾” clutch must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC." How strict are they about the exact sizes? I haven't been to Nats Stadium in a couple years but went to a couple games at a AAA ballpark with the same rules last year and was able to bring my Lululemon belt bag in without a problem, and tons of other fans were wearing similar. The width/length is just about 5x7 inches, but the depth, were you to fill it, is closer to 2 inches. Now, I would certainly not fill it, I just want somewhere to stash my phone, metro card, ID, chapstick, etc. Has anyone who has been recently speak to this? We're planning to metro so I wouldn't have a fallback of taking it back to my car. I just hate trying to stuff things in my pockets, inevitably I lose something. |
They are strict. I had one barely over, and they wouldn't let me take it in. I ended taking everything out of it and placing the contents in my clear plastic bag, folding up my clutch, and putting the clutch in my pocket. I wouldn't chance it if it's close. You can rent a locker, worst case scenario, but that's a pain and an added expense. |
when was that? Last summer I took my bag thay was definitely more than 3/4 deep with no issues. I think they look more closely at length and width. It is 51/2 x 8 x 3. |
Here’s what makes me mad. If you buy a clear tote bag that fit the rules, can’t you just put the belt bag inside? It’s so overwhelming stupid, these rules. |
It was last summer. I guess it depends on the person looking, but the guy assigned to me DID NOT let me through. |
strict. you can bring a gallon ziplock bag too |
Yeah, they are strict. |
What about at a concert? I have a concert there this summer and I wonder if I can take in water bottles and snacks. |
lol, so they still let you bring in the oversized clutch in your pocket? These rules are so dumb. |
I do think it’s person dependent, and how long the lines are. When it’s not busy, they’re likely to scrutinize more slowly. |
I bring a baggu or similar foldable bag in a small clear plastic bag. Once I’m inside, I open up the baggu and stash everything in there. I like having a bigger bag for putting in jackets, phones, etc. |
We wear cargo pants and carry no bags. |
that’s my approach as well! |
Last summer I was in line behind a dad trying to take his things through in a small, clear, vinyl bag which conformed to the rules in every way -- except it had two backpack straps instead of a long single or two short loop handles.
The attendant was adamant that no backpacks were allowed. The dad kept pointing out that it was the size and transparency that mattered, not the way it was carried. Attendant couldn't see past the straps and kept saying "No backpacks!" It was a kafka-esque sh!tshow. |
Yeah some of them are clearly on a power trip. |
