Mine has a 9pm bedtime and therefore gets approx 9 hours a night (which I still don't think is enough for a 13 year old) but she tells me that "all" her friends stay up hours later than her. I have seen texts come in after 10pm so I see that she's correct about at least some of them. I don't get why since they have to be up by 6:30am latest to get to MS on time. Are parents just not prioritizing sleep? |
I hear the "all my friends" excuse too. Most nights, mine is in bed at 9:30 and asleep by 10:00 at the latest. She gets up at 7:15 a.m. I also think it is not enough sleep, but it is an all-out battle to get her to bed earlier than that. |
Mine is the same as yours, OP. Bedtime around 9:00, wakes up around 6:00. I think 9 hours is pretty good for her age though. Maybe I'm deluding myself, but she also plays a very tiring sport so I feel like the quality of sleep is probably pretty good.
Her peers all sleep much, much later than her. They also seem tired in the morning, whereas she's fresh as a daisy following her extensive morning routine lmao |
private school? public middle schools around here all start at 7:30am. |
In bed at 9:30-10:00 and up at 6:30. He needs more sleep, but school starts at 7:30 and with homework and activities it’s tough to get bedtime earlier. |
8-9 hours per night is pretty good, my oldest is in bed at 10 or a bit later and is up by 645-7. |
Mine get a minimum of 8 1/2 hours. When they are tired or sick, we struggle to give them 9 hours. Yes, I hear that everyone else they know doesn't have a bedtime. Not sure how true that is.
I know it's variable, but my kids are more stable emotionally (more able to roll with the punches of life.) when they get a steady amount of sleep. |
My 6th grader is allowed to stay up later than 9:00 pm. I think 9:00 is really early for a middle schooler. |
When do they wake? |
9:20 - 6:30. 9 hours of sleep for 6th grader. |
9 seems insanely early. My 7th grader doesn't get home from practice or games until about 10-10:15 many nights a week, and then has to eat, shower, wind down and go to sleep. Tough to get to sleep before 11. They leave for school at 7:30. |
that's insane. you need to dial back the practices. super unhealthy and unsustainable. we don't allow our kids to participate in any practices that end later than 8pm. their health and growth potential is far more important than them attending a late practice in a sport. parents really need to get their priorities straight! |
That sounds good. Mine have to wake at 6 am, so for them to get the same amount of sleep, 9pm is bedtime. |
Probably goes to sleep around 10 and is up at 7 to leave for school at 7:30. No clue what time they’re actually asleep. I’m asleep by then. 8th grader. |
Ummm the families with the 9 p.m. bedtime are not the insane ones.... |
