How would you feel about this type of communication?

Anonymous
First thing this morning, my entire group (about 50 people) received a message from our supervisor saying he'd be in touch with some of us at some point today. Nothing else.

I’d say it was probably not meant to go to the whole group?

Do you have any reason to suspect that layoffs are coming?

It was! My feeling is why give us this sort of ominous advance notice, including to those of us who will not be concerned by this?

It's always a possibility.

I would feel nervous and unsettled about that sort of communications. Very.

What did you do? Lol.

That would make me freak out.

I just worked all day while worried about it, but never got the dreaded call so I guess I am safe as of today.

What happened to the others??

They were or were not contacted. The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Really poor management move!! What possibly does he gain by announcing such a thing? Just call the people needing calls and leave the rest alone. Now he’s made people wary unnecessarily.

I'd think:

Layoffs
He is leaving and telling key managers
Someone else is leaving
Someone is being added to group or higher
Some new directive or objective has been assigned to you
The note about him just contacting some people is strange and frightening!

I agree 100 percent. That was really short sighted (or just plain mean) on his end.

Probably wanted to make sure everyone actually worked a full day instead of running errands.
