Obscure humanities majors

How much does it help? My kid has a genuine interest and will likely double major in this random obscure field along with economics or something.

Does it help to apply undecided in this case? Or as humanities major only?
Or both so they know you are both left brain and right brain?
Assume private T25.

On all of these private high school IG sites you see so many things like:
Art history & computer science
Applied mathematics and ancient civilizations
Linguistics and neuroscience
Etc

Does it make a difference? Most ambitious kids do have a double major or at least minor….

First, how cool that your kid has an obscure interest. That’s fantastic. I recommend your DC just tell the truth. If it’s a genuine interest, and he’ll likely double major in it, say so.

There’s really no satisfying way to game admissions. If it’s a low-admit school, it’s a crapshoot even in the best of circumstances. So tell the truth. Be authentic. The kids who have genuine interests, and can articulate them (to themselves above all) tend to do pretty well in the long term.

Cultivate that — it’s really the main thing you can control.

Agree on authenticity.

But pricey college counselors will tell you that some schools are looking for that left brain/right brain esp if kid has lots of stem interests.

If nothing stem, then lean in to the unusual. Economics can always be declared later….

I think some of those private HS instagrams are taking some creative liberties with majors--they are created by the kids, not schools. Someone from GDS posted they were majoring in barbecuing last year...
