What to look for as a teacher

What would you look for in a teaching role/school if you are interviewing?

Ask how collaborative teams are-are there supports available to you when/if a student with many needs is placed with you-is there quite of resources

I'd want to know:
Class size
Prep time
When there's a serious behavior issue, how will the school respond?
Curriculum
I'd also try to talk with a staff member or two about what people really think about the principal, but mostly, the most important thing to do is to start making an exit plan from the field completely.

Definitely ask about collaborative teams!
Ask if you can see the most recent school climate survey
Try to talk to as many current teachers as possible
Find out the turnover rate or current number of vacancies, especially in your prospective department. Walk if they're basically trying to hire an entirely new department because so many people are leaving.
Probably most importantly if it's a public school, ask how many discipline referrals were submitted by teachers last year. Cross check this against the publicly available list of reported offenses at the school. If there have been hundreds of referrals and a very small number of offenses reported, run like hell.

School climate survey

If you watch the news you find put how many fight and chaos are common. I would stay away from the teaching profession until the climate improves and they start holding admin accountable for not supporting teachers.
