"private college in a historic area"
LOL You mean the admissions scandal place? LOL OP find another place for your student. |
| The location is good and St. Augustine is a neat little town, but Flagler's graduation rate blows a pair of nuts and its transfer out rate after freshman year is insane. It might have something to do with the school's antiquated visitation policy. Boys aren't allowed in girls' rooms or vice versa at any time, day or night. It doesn't make sense, as the school has no religious affiliation. I think students are allowed to move off campus as sophomores, but by that point many of them are just over the school and its silly rules and have already had their transfer applications accepted. |
| I don't know much about the school - other than that it looks gorgeous and is in a touristy area. |

We visited over spring break last year, just because we were in the area. DD felt like some of the academic programs seemed interesting. In particular, the history/ archaeology/ anthropology programs had some good connections with sites in the area, and it sounded like marine biology and environmental science had some cool projects. Our tour guide seemed sharp and intelligent, and said she had a very good merit scholarship. But DD thought the lack of actual books in the library seemed to indicate the academics might not be as strong as she’d want.
The campus was very pretty, compact and walkable, and outside of the touristy parts we liked St Augustine. The heat and humidity aren’t for the faint-hearted, though! The biggest drawback for my MCPS kid was the lack of diversity. Felt too heavy on the “UMC white girl” vibe, which I think the published stats kind of bear out. |
Weird response, considering it is in fact a private college, and St. Augustine was founded in 1565. |
Somebody has been hitting the bottle. Very weird post. Great place (fun & interesting) to attend college for two years, but then it might seem too small & too familiar. |
