I am currently a high school junior, interested in taking a class in Material Science in my senior year. My current high school is not offering this course.
What options do I have to enroll in this course at Montgomery College? I can take virtual classes during summer and can attend in-person classes in the evenings during the school year. Thanks! |
| Ask your guidance counselor. What does MC offer? |

You'd like to take a college course but are incapable of googling the course schedule?

Not sure what you are asking.
Maybe this will help, for credit you will need to enroll as a student at MC. I am not sure if you enroll as duel enrollment I am sure on the website it will tell you or you can call to confirm. Any HS student can take courses at MC. Then you sign up for whatever class you want that is open. If you get a C or better and want the credits to transfer to college later most colleges have transfer protocols on their website the grade will not transfer but the credits should. |

| Go see the admissions counselor at the college. |
| What high school science courses are you taking? |
| Talk to your school’s dual enrollment coordinator and school counselor |
AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism A/B AP Physics C Mechanics A/B |
I don’t know what Material Science is but they do have Physical Science. Physical Science is not offered in the summer but is in the fall. They only have one class available. Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8:40 pm on the Rockville Campus. If that time does not work be sure to check the spring schedule which should be released around October. I hope this helps!!! |
Also talk you your counselor for registration information. |

Sounds like you are asking about this:

This is the correct program, and is part of Dual Enrollment, which has 3 programs. To register, first you need to find the person at your HS who coordinates this. Your counselor will know who that is. Then they will connect you to the MC coordinator, and you’ll work with both of them to get registered. It’s a tedious process with a lot of steps but worth it in the end. Note there’s a list of courses that MCPS will accept for credit and pay for. You can still take courses that aren’t on the list but will have to pay and you won’t get credit. Also, they won’t pay for summer courses whether they accept the credit or not. Classes are about $500. When they take credit, it will show up on your MCPS transcript and count in the five point scale for your GPA. You’ll have to take placement tests. For English you write an essay and for math you use a service called Aleks. It’s kind of a nightmare administrative task, so you might want to ask a parent for help, or it could be a good learning opportunity. Good luck! |
