ISO in home care for elderly parents who want to age in place. Sorry for being ignorant but where do you even start? Nursing assistants or just people to help with laundry and daily living tasks? Any suggestions would be appreciated. |
OP here. just wanted to revise to say I'm looking for nursing assistants or home health aides but could also use someone to help with daily living tasks if home health aides don't do those things. I'm new to this so if you have suggestions for other in home help that I should explore please let me know. Are there agencies? or something like that? |
Check with your insurance first they may cover some services. People either look on care .com for an elderly sitter or use a home health service for things like CNA. |
Private will be significantly cheaper but you can’t guarantee quality of care and you’re in charge of schedule. At the same time you have more control over who comes in the home, with HH you may have rotating people.
If money is no object they have services that provide total health home care including a PT, OT, nutritionist, RN, NP or Dr, social worker, etc. You could do something like that in addition to a couple CNAs for direct care. You can also get a sitter for outings, walks, general oversight and a CNA Just to come for bathing and checks. You might also consider just a housekeeper or cleaners to come once a week. It really depends on immediate level of care and future care level you expect. |
Typically, when you hire a helper from an agency, you get a nurse's aide who can help with things like bathing, toileting, helping with PT exercises, companionship as well as laundry, dishes, light meal prep, etc. You generally pay about $30ish an hour with a minimum of four hours. You can arrange a weekly schedule with the hours you need and depending on how much coverage you need, you might get a few different people taking the shifts. You have to tell the person exactly what you want them to be doing, so some supervision is required. Medicare will not cover this service at all.
What Medicare will do, as PP said, is based on assessed need, provide in home PT, a visiting RN and sometimes a weekly bath. You can do a combination of what Medicare will give AND coverage from a private agency to get all of the needs met. Hope this helps. People have mixed luck with agencies, but my parents have had a great experience with Granny Nannies in Florida. The benefit of an agency is that they are licensed and coordinate the schedule. |
Thank you for the info. Other than Granny Nannies in Florida are there recommendations for agencies locally to contact? |
