| ds was very lucky to be admitted to both. went to princeton preview this tuesday, and enjoyed it. going to bulldog days next week. spia at princeton and cs+econ at yale. thoughts? we are leaning princeton but it feels weird to turn down yale -- its yale! but there's something about new haven and the engineering departments at yale that are just off. |
| Undergrad is more fun at Yale. He’s going to get a great education regardless. Pick where he feels like he’ll fit in more. |
| Yale feels more prestigious. Can you share stats and EC? Legacy anywhere? URM? |
|
Both great choices. You are right that Yale STEM isn’t as strong a department, relatively speaking. Child should go with their gut.

I think you should definitely do Bulldog days and then circle back.
Close family friend’s kid had to decide between Harvard, Yale and Princeton 2 years ago. It pretty much came down to Yale vs Princeton and the kid ended up picking Yale because of social vibe and gut feel. Last thing I’ve heard he is loving it and thriving. |
| Congrats on an amazing choice. I’ve got one family member who went to Yale and another to Princeton. Both beautiful campuses, dripping in prestige etc. You can actually say no to Yale it’s fine. Obviously Yale has been less of a STEM presence in past but they are pouring money into that now and opportunities are abundant for undergrads as far as research etc. Given that choice I would go for Yale all day long. It is simply a marvellous undergrad experience with such a vibrant campus and gobs of school spirit . I’m actually going to be sad when my current family member who is there graduates because I’ve loved even the second hand experiences I’ve had of the community there. |

Why would someone interested in SPIA at Princeton worry about the engineering department at Yale? Yes, engineering at Princeton is stronger than engineering at Yale, but SPIA is public affairs.
Two great choices, though. |
| If your DS wants to study STEM Princeton. Otherwise, which one they like. (Yale engineering is brand new and not there yet, Princeton has great engineering among the Ivys). Both have stellar reputations so don’t worry about those at this point. Good luck! Congrats to your son. |
| Pp here. saw your info. No idea what SPIA is (and I went to Princeton), but, For cs, Princeton over Yale. |
| Stupid post |
SPIA is Woody Woo, shorn of Wilson. |
| Yale is more fun. Less pressure cooker |
| Yale is not a strong cs school. That being said I don’t think it matters too much. Both schools offer great opportunities for a motivated student which your son probably is. |
| Congrats. Totally great choices either way. Fine to say no to Yale. See what’s better feel for your kid. I will say Yale undergrads do seem among happiest in Ivy League |
