I have an empty wall space in my kitchen that I'd like to fill with a wall mounted, shallow pantry. Pantry might not be the right word (it's not resulting in useful google results anyway) as I want it to be quite shallow -- maybe 6 inches deep?
My inspiration is a spice rack my mom had when I was a kid, which hung on a wall and had a door and a little latch. I want that, but taller, so that in addition to spices I can also store some other lightweight pantry items that get heavy use, like pasta and grains (in clear plastic containers) and maybe a few oils and vinegars on the bottom shelf. We have a larger pantry but it's separate from the kitchen, so this would be like a little mini pantry for frequently used items and spices, which currently live in a deep cabinet and are not well organized. I was hoping to be able to find something premade and just hang it. Ideally something I could paint as I'd like the frame to match the wall and my plan was to stencil a design (or hire someone else to) on the door to more resemble the one in my childhood kitchen. But I'm not finding what I'm looking for. Does anyone know of anything like this? It can be backless since it will mount right to the wall -- the key features are the frame, the door, and the interior shelves. I'm willing to hire someone to build it but it just seems like there are so many premade cabinets out there on the market, I thought for sure someone would have something like this. TIA for any leads. |
I would hire someone to build it - and I'm notoriously frugal. It just sounds like it needs a custom touch. And it shouldn't cost that much. |
I would want this to be recessed if at all possible, so +1 to hiring someone. |
If you are just slapping something on the wall, why not look at a larger bookshelf/cupboard type thing? You could still screw it to the wall, but having it go to the floor would give you much more space.
TBH I think the idea of a floating cabinet is going to look like you took a medicine cabinet and put it in the kitchen. BUT if that is what you're going for, definitely check out medicine cabinet type of dealies. |
I have been looking for something similar.
Look up book display shelves or spice shelves book display spice shelves spice shelves I decided to go with a plate rack because I wanted to store big platters, cookbooks, and serving trays. Something like this, but less rustic |
PP again. I just remembered I had seen something similar and found this in my bookmarks wall mounted cabinet I think I searched for "shallow wall cabinet" to find it, so maybe there are other options there. Fermliving also makes a cabinet with see through doors. |
I keep my spices lying down in a drawer it so much better than a cabinet. You can easily see and access them all. |
