But with these scores I’m not optimistic at all!

You don't lose anything by appealing. My child is accepted with a worse HOPE rating than this.

When you appeal, make sure you do every possible parent write-up (if you didn't do the questionnaire before, do it). Provide specific stories that illustrate every HOPE criteria where your child got a "sometimes." Make sure to paint a detailed picture of your child. In addition, grab the old GBRS, and while using stories about the HOPE criteria also think of the way GBRS talks about kids as giving you a list of keywords to hit on.

Add work samples that show complex academic-type work. I've used things like:

* a several word dictionary for a language my kid was developing (the county shows an example of hieroglyphics developed by a kid, which is a similar idea)
* Reflections Art Contest literature entries with the artist's statement
* NRICH math problems solved by my kid
* a math board game my kid made up (this kid was board game obsessed)
* an imaginary society my kid came up with while playing (this kid did this regularly, so it was pretty natural - I just photographed it and had her explain it)

Our AART also said the kid should write an explanation of their work samples, in the first person.

I would take one of two approaches in the appeal:
1. If you think your kid is above grade level in math or reading, try to get an achievement test done at GMU that could counter the relatively low iready scores.
2. Use the CogAT + HOPE as evidence that you have a naturally gifted child who is not thriving in a gen ed classroom and needs an alternate placement to have their needs met. For this approach, you would need to address HOPE or old form GBRS points and explain why your child is not showing whatever gifted traits in the gen ed classroom, but would do so in a more engaging and challenging environment.

HOPE rating started this year (GBRS in previous years), so he will be in AAP next year. He will thrive. HOPE is not the exclusive factor for AAP eligibility.

Yes reading and math was mentioned in screening paper as a crierias he is talented on.
So you think hope scores is good enough to highlight them on appeal!?

I find the hope scale very hard to write the cover letter on. I would use the old GBRS wording and elaborate on my child. That’s what I did in the parent questionnaire. I think you should also mention being new to the country, but still performing well

My child is in, His iready are above 95% with great cogat / nnat scores.

But his HOPE score was 2 often, 4 sometimes, 4 rarely and 1 never. I was raging mad when I got his package back in March, luckily he got in so I don't need to talk to his teacher about it.
