Looking for excellent shoulder surgeon.

Need revision. I need someone who is very skilled at diagnosis. Thanks.

I didn’t need surgery, but I saw Dr Wiesel at Georgetown a few years ago when I broke my shoulder. His bedside manner was a bit clinical, but he knew shoulders and guided my treatment very well. He was good at explaining and answering questions.

I know you didn't ask for opinions, but I was told to try other options before surgery.

Physical therapy was not fun, but it seemed to do the trick. I didn't need surgery, although I felt some pain for a long time if I moved wrong.

Who did you see for physical therapy?

You beat me to it here. I saw Dr Wiesel at Medstar in Bethesda after I had a consult with another shoulder surgeon. I had a pretty gnarly AC joint separation from a bike accident in the late fall last year. I agree with all of what you post above. He was very clear he would never perform any sort of reconstruction in my situation, where surgeon 1 suggested that might be a route I need to take.

I waited it out like he told me to and have been doing PT to supplement all my other strength training. I barely notice it anymore except for the deformation of my collarbone being unattached (basically a lump). It has all worked out exactly as he told me it would, and my swimming has actually improved (though I suck, so that isn't saying much). He said 4-6 months back to normal, which is exactly what happened (though I would say I was more or less back to normal by 3).

Right scapular bursectomy and decompression. Utterly useless. Even worse now.

yeah, PT here--never had a patient with a scapular bursectomy in my 20 years of working ortho. In addition, bursas grow back. Have you done real PT? like one on one for 30-40 minutes PT? I would start there for two months.

Op, you need to give your shoulder 1 year to heal and not expect it to heal until then.

Thanks all. I’m open to PT for sure. Surgery certainly didn’t work. I just need to find a good therapist.

I don't remember his name, but will look for it and come back here when I find it. He was really good.
