English/Writing tutor

DS is in 4th and his writing is not very good. We saw some writing work he did and he needs help.

Can anyone recommend a good English tutor that focuses on grammar and writing who is reasonable?

Do you mean hand writing? Or like writing writing. Because writing is hard and fourth graders aren't going to be good at it yet.

I found a virtual tutor that uses the institute for excellence in writing curriculum and I think it's excellent. She charges $40 an hour. When I looked locally I got rates from $90-$150

Of course they can be good at it, that’s ridiculous.

Reading is not writing and don’t give the bs that it will relay over through osmosis.

I am a private tutor who works with students on reading/writing. While reading is not writing, it can still be beneficial to students who struggle with writing! Consuming examples of well-written texts will ultimately help students produce their own. However, a good writing tutor should also guide your student through things like sentence/paragraph construction and grammar, working their way up to more specific topics like building a narrative arc or persuasion.

I posted the question about reading as an initial question. I did not intend the question to be rhetorical, nor did I mean to ask as snark. The OP asked for advice in an anonymous forum for parents.

OP, consider how you might begin to answer my question as a starting point for your next steps.

The tone for most posts on this message board is always toxic. Think people go here to be negative.

Agree that reading is not a substitute for explicit instruction in writing.
