Success with appeals?

Anonymous
DS not in. Will schedule a WISC. I haven’t seen the HOPE or work samples submitted from his teachers so reached out to AART teacher and she will send it next week.

Any idea what may work in the appeal?

I haven't had to appeal, but I have crafted 3 packets that all got in. Make sure you emphasize in everything you write HOPE and GBRS traits (pull those up on the website). Present a well-rounded picture of your kid. Add a reading work sample and a math work sample if you can. When you get the HOPE, wherever there were areas that weren't strong find counter examples and put them in your appeal write-up.

Something language arts related. I typically use Reflections art contest entries including both the writing and the artist's statement.

Our AART says always have your kid, in the first person, explain their work sample.

I didn't say anything about WISC because you said you were definitely doing it.

Explain the need for a different placement , the need for challenge the need to find similar peers, address the important areas of the HOPE scale or use the wording from the old GBRS. Tell them what will be missing if your child does not get in. Tell them the positive things the teachers say about your child.
Advanced math sample, social studies project , science project and a writing sample.

Use their wording from the rejected email on the evidence they needed for placement also use wording from gbrs/hope

I put together a successful appeal last year and this is all good advice, as well as info from 18:04.
