Infertility Support and Discussion

In late April I had my FSH tested and it was 21 (all other numbers were totally normal)
I got pregnant 2 weeks later and mc (embryo was normal, so not a bad egg I guess). I re-tested 2 weeks ago, and FSH is now 7.9, AMH is 1.0 and had 18 antral follicles on cd9. I don't see my RE until next week, so curious to see what you think of these numbers. From what I read online they are all perfectly normal? I am 29yo. Could that first FSH have been a fluke? |

| FSH varies from month to month. You could have had a lot of stress in April and the hormone was high, now you're not so stressed. Not a fluke: but not a set in stone number. |
| But my other numbers (amh and afc) look totally fine right, nit indicative of overian failure or DOR? |
| Your AMH doesn't jive with your AFC - I have an AMH of 1 and generally have 7-9 antral follicles. |
| So the 1 is low for amh? I thought 1 and up was normal ( again I haven't talked to Re yet, all my knowledge is from dr. Google) |
| Some docs think 1 is the bottom end of normal, some say 1.5. Not sure if it depends on the lab. But an FSH of 21 also doesn't match an AFC of 18. Have you had an AFC counted on day 3? |
| No, they told me the Afc didn't have to be done on cd3, so I had it on cd9.... My Fsh of 21 was just at the end of April and I got pg mid march. My 7.9 fsh was on cd3 of first period after miscarriage |

According to this site, the low range of normal is 0.7-0.9

| Sorry got pg mid may, not march |
| Was the FSH of 21 done on cd3? If not, I would not count that. If both FSH values are from cd3, however, then I'm not sure what to think. FSH fluctuates, but supposedly you're only as good as your worst FSH number, even if it goes down subsequently. But maybe that's just for AMA women? You're very young for DOR. Even if you do have high FSH, the outcomes are much better in young women with high FSH than in older ones so your chances are still good. Sorry, I'm rambling & not being very helpful! |

Yes both done on Cd3.
I got pregnant the cycle of the 21 which is weird, I shouldn't even have ovulated with such a high number? |

"I got pregnant the cycle of the 21 which is weird, I shouldn't even have ovulated with such a high number?"
No, FSH is related to ovarian reserve and your ability to respond to IVF protocols, not your ability to ovulate. Mine has been in the high teens for several years and I've ovulated or had eggs retrieved plenty of times. |
| My ob called me and told me that number was indicative of ovarian failure, that's why I was surprised I even ovulated |
| What your OB meant was that your high FSH at your age is indicative of something called Premature Ovarian Failure, which is kindof a premature aging of the ovaries. However, this doesn't mean your ovaries have stopped working or that you have stopped ovulating or no longer have any eggs. As I said, I had an FSH almost as high for several years and I know that I still ovulate because I just had an egg retrieved. At your age, you still have a good chance of getting pregnant. |
