| I am looking to rent a 3 bedroom apartment/unit in Anacostia/Fairlwan area located at 20020. My voucher covers about 70% of the rent. One of the landlords quoted me voucher rent of $2448/mo including utilities but my understanding is that it is only $2208. Rents are not published on DCHA site because they changed the rent calculation to reasonable market rent. I don't want to pay more so could someone tell me the ongoing new voucher rent for 3 bedrooms in 20020. TIA |
| I think it has gone up recently. Rent of $2208 is for 2-3 years ago. |

It's done by neighborhood, not zip code. You can look up the address at https://otr.cfo.dc.gov/page/real-property-tax-database-search to find out the neighborhood. You could call DCHA to see what they'll pay for that neighborhood--I wish I could find where it used to be written down!
DCHA won't let you use a voucher for a place that costs more than their standard, even if you're willing to pay more. So the landlord will probably either reduce the rent to whatever DCHA will pay or keep the rent where it is and rent it to someone who doesn't have a voucher. |
