IVF #2---hoping for a better outcome

Anonymous
I had a BFN on my first IVF and although I realize that things change from cycle to cycle, I can't help but wonder why it wouldn't fail again. Perhaps the first failure is always the most devastating (for me, it was given that it had come after multiple IUI's and supposedly I don't have any major issues except male factor and I'm in my mid-30's). Anyone feel a little hopeless after a failure? How many tries did you have before a success?

Conceived on the 3rd IUI for the 1st one. I didn't think #3 would work so I basically "chilled" that entire month expecting the worst. I got pregnant! Now, trying for # 2, and 3 years older, I again got pregnant on #3 IUI - had given up hope so wasn't stressing as I did for the first two. Sadly, it ended in misscarriage. I will try one or two more times - probably with IVF since I am not in 40's.

Stay hopeful, but not too hopeful. If youexpect the worse, I think it helps reduce stress which I think played a big factor in my case. To put in perspective, for the 1st 2 IUIs, I was on the internet constantly researching everything about IUI's, timing, follicle growth, medicines, etc. I was driving myself nuts with all this knowledge. On the 3rd one, I just didn't have a good feeling and just went on with life.

Have you done ICSI with your IVF? If not, I advise to try it next time since it's helpful when you have a male factor.

Hang in there! I felt the same way. BFN on try number one, and I was feeling like maybe this isn't going to work for me. I was pleasantly surprised to get a BFP for my IVF #2. Best wishes for BFP!

I got a BFN on #1 (one embryo transferred) and BFP on #2 (two embryos transferred). I am also in my early 30s and our only known issue is male factor. It might sound kind of hokey, but on the second cycle I focused all of my energy on really, truly believing that we could be successful. In past cycles I think I psyched myself out as a self-preservation measure. Best of luck!
