Storm windows

Cost of replacing storm windows? I leave them on all year. Would like the kids that can open. The ones now are in pretty bad shape. I think they would need to be customs sizes.

We ended up just getting new windows. Love fresh air through the house whenever weather permits.

Lowes does not sell storm windows any more.

I ordered new storm windows for my historic house from Quantapanel as they are apparently only one of two storm window companies left in the whole country. My house is 1920s with original windows that had 1960s metal storm windows added. I debated replacing the windows outright but the original windows were in excellent shape and had been lovingly maintained and restored over the years. Replacing the metal storms with new ones is costing me $4k for 12 windows.

If your main windows are in good shape, there really is no reason to get new windows. Not only are new windows extremely expensive, they also won't last as long as the older windows did.

Can I ask who did your storm window install? We are most likely going to restore our original wood windows and will need new storm windows. Thanks!

I have a house from the 1840’s in Old Town and replaced three windows with the highest-end Marvin’s (NB they were aluminum replacement windows from the 70’s that failed; the original wooden windows with triple-track storms are in terrific shape; original pre-war windows will last centuries if properly maintained) from the Hodges Company. They also put on a couple custom storms on wood windows that didn’t have have them and I’m very happy with the quality. Cost was about 1/4 of the top line Marvin. Strongly recommend.
