Did your DC attend school today?

I had written today down as a school holiday on my phone calendar. Kids had school today. Anyone know when that changed?
My 7th grader was shocked, when we got the phone saying they missed school. He thought schools re open on Tuesday. Did they change this because of the holiday next week?

It didn't change- you were looking at the wrong calendar- probably a draft proposed calendar from last year.

Our school sent out messages that there was school Monday, both before break and the night before. We still had 20 staff members out though!

Ditto nothing changed. It was a holiday last year but not this year. You should be able to sync the APS or your individual school calendar to your phone and that way you will always knows when the days off are. But this is the current calendar (assuming you are in APS). This also contains the link to subscribe to the calendar.

Of course my kid attended school today-nothing changed.
OP, you do realize that not everyone in this forum has kids that attend your kid's school/in the same district, right?
This is for VA Public Schools other than FCPS.

I can't speak for FCPS, ACPS, or LCPS but Arlington had school yesterday and that's been on the calendar all year. It was also in the messages from the principal sent out in the week before spring break. My 8th grader was at school.

My kids didn't have school and didn't go to school (ACPS)

OP, you are correct -- APS changed the calendar in November because they didn't account for the school closure for the March 5 primary. If I remember correctly, they had to change April 1 to a school day to account for the new day off. The 2024-25 calendar has the Monday after spring break as a holiday.

I thought it was a day off, too, until my 9th grader told me otherwise.

+1. Using school district designations in the subject line is helpful.

I wonder if my 7th grader knew, and just didn't tell us...

They did change the calendar. They did NOT change that we had school on April 1st. Trust me as someone who booked their spring break vacation a year ago and also as someone who puts out a printed calendar for their APS school which listed April 1st as a school day when the form was created in August.

This was a weird one off year where we didn't have that Monday off, but it has nothing to do with the addition of the March 5th holiday.

Lady- don't you read the weekly emails? They have reminded folks for weeks about this.

APS only has Easter Monday off on years that the grade prep day aligns with spring break. Didn’t happen this year because Easter was so early.
