Wake, UGA, or Tulane

Wake and UGA are tied for a better ranking than Tulane. UGA is bigger and public, but probably best positioned for the future. Which would you choose?

Wake in a landslide

Wake for sure! It is such a perfect hybrid of smallish school, great academics, beautiful campus with Division 1 sports.

Wake is known as “Work Forest”….absolute definition of work (really) hard/play hard. Make sure your kid is up for that. Mine did not apply after talking with a bunch of current students all bragging about the amount of all nighters they pull. Great school…for the right kid.

UGA's academics appear to be just as strong and it seems overall much more exciting. How does Athens compare to Winston Salem?

UGA is a no brainer in this situation unless the student is extremely introverted (and I’m a Wake grad)

What major?

+1 The major matters, if business major then UGA or Tulane. Acceptance is not guaranteed into the business program at Wake

UGA will likely rise in the rankings while the other two likely wont.

Another vote for Wake, lots of happy kids and small classes from day 1.

My premed student has never pulled an all nighter, at least studying wise

Tulane or UGA.

Thanks. Why would you choose UGA?

I wouldn’t put too much thought into US News rankings, as the tide turns against DEI, I can see another complete redo in the next five years. Until then, I actually expect private schools to be rewarded for moving towards some of the new criteria while public schools will likely just maintain.

Under the “old”rankings, Wake was in the T30 for literally three decades. Neither of the other two were close.

Sure, but where is the evidence that Wake is actually a better institution?

Well, how about the ranking factors USNews cut out of the process that gave Wake it's top 30 ranking: alumni giving, class sizes, high school class standing, and the proportion of instructional faculty with terminal degrees.
