Need to do the change. Progressive is jacking up after neighbor rear ended 17 year old. Complicated by fact we bundled.
2 adults - 30+ years, no accidents (1) 17 year old - fender bender (damage was 1500) not caused by him. Thoughts? |

This is normal for Progressive.
Yes change. |
| Oh here are numbers: progressive wants 1244 for 6 months |
|
They all are jacking them up. I pay $780 with Geico for a slow 5-year old car driving less than 4k miles a year with own safe parking. No accidents ever or tickets, but I'm in DC. I was told I have to pay to fix other people's cars.
And lets not forget the premiums include all the money printing/inflation. I tried All State or Statefarm many years ago, but that was even worse. Progressive was my very first company and they were over thousand 17 years ago already for six month policy for two grownups and a used car. |
| The accident wasn’t his fault. Why are your rates increasing? |
Does this really matter? My rate went up about 25% when I was rear ended at a stoplight. I had State Farm. |
| So who to go to dropping Progressive? |
NP We have had no accidents (knock on wood) or tickets for over a decade and our rates are going up. |
| Are you sure the rate increase has anything to do with the accident? My rate with Amica has gone up 30% in the past year, no accidents or tickets. It’s just the times we live in. When we add our teen I’m sure they’ll want at least as much as what Progressive is asking from you. |
| Is there any solid data on property insurance costs by state? Moving from DC to VA. Not interested in opinion, just actual data. Actual recent personal experience welcome if within one year. |
*ops I meant car insurance costs (and yes I'm aware of the ridiculous VA car property tax we'll need to budget for) |
| I doubt that you’ll find anything cheaper. Car mechanics charge $200/hr now, a 100% increase in less 5 years. Insurance companies are adjusting as they need to, everyone’s rate is skyrocketing. |
That sounds pretty good to me! Our USAA rate is more, even when we had just one teen on it. |
| Everyone is going up. Next time pay out of pocket and don't report it. |
| Is it okay that when someone hits me and not my fault, I never report it to my insurance? |
