My daughter dropped the bomb this is on her school list. She has like a 4.7 GPA and good SATs.
NC State Wilmington looks like right by Beach and pretty far South. Is this some type of beach party school? At 375 miles south of DMV sounds like nice weather year round. Anyone hear of this school? It is a safety school but she looked at map and location and in love |
| It’s a good school but nothing amazing. Has some great programs, depends on major. |

Well there is that! Also short drive to Spring Break. |
| Wilmington is a lifestyle choice - chill |
OH NO. What is the issue with that? |
|
It’s an alright school. Very large, mostly in-state students (as with all UNC affiliated campuses). Has a reputation as a party school, perhaps in part because of its beach location.
Have you done a campus visit? Does your child have an idea what they want to study? Are there other admissions offers being considered? I confess, I’d probably be a bit disappointed if my 4.7 GPA kid picked UNC-W. |
Just to clarify, every NC public university is UNC System school even NCSU, ECU, WCU. |
I have to do an almost 800 mile round trip to drop her off! |

Intended major?
They are great for marine biology (for example). Otherwise, it’s a regional state school that happens to be at the beach. |
| A decent school that's also a bit of a party school. It's more relaxed partying than the REAL Eastern NC party school, ECU, though. I know a lot of people who went there and some got pretty good educations, some didn't, but they all still love the beach. It's a very normal college. |
| We drove through and looked but did not officially tour. It was a Friday around 4 or 5. Campus was completely empty. We literally saw 3 people and there was a line of cars out. My impression it was a commuter school. |
| Dropped a bomb? Lady get over yourself. |
+1. Have you considered, you know, asking your daughter what she likes about it, what interests her? I just know it's got a good marine biology program. |
I do think there is a suitcase school aspect to it and a large percentage of students live off-campus after first year. Might be a little tough for an OOS student with no ties to NC. |
