Hyatt Baha Mar - Nassau

Anyone been? How did you like it? We've never been to Bahamas, but have a lot of Hyatt points to burn!

Thanks.

We are going in July. From my take, it is very expensive and lots of fun. There is a Facebook group of people who’ve traveled there.

We have friends that went and they said, although their kids had a lot of fun, it felt pretty crowded (had to get up early to get beach chairs in a desired spot, the pool loud and full of kids, service down at the beach was slow, etc.)so if they went again, they would not go during one of the more busier weeks.

A better value would be Grand Hyatt Kauai or Hyatt Regency Maui.

Andaz Maui and Andaz Papagayo if you can swing the flights would be a better spend to me.

Baha Mar is like a Vegas styled resort on a busy island. It’s fine, I personally wouldn’t last more than three full days there. The food and beverage options are pricey and book up!

We went six years ago when Baha Mar was new and it's gorgeous but expensive. Now they have a waterpark built for guests part of resort fees which has made it super expensive to go. Not many food options other than resort restaurants.

Hey - we’ve been a bunch and really enjoyed it.

Here are my tips:

1. Baha Bay Beach Club - it’s inside the water park (right at the entrance) and a chair is $100 but you apply it to you food/beverage order. Only need to buy a chair for 11 and over I believe. So a lunch and a few drinks and you mostly get there. The pool is great and chill (my kids prefer it to the rock wall pool when given the choice, quick walk down to the beach and can pop in and out of the park easily.

2. Pizza Lab is good for most of your dinners and way less expensive than a lot of places. I like Cafe Boulud the best, my bestie prefers Marcus. Another friend really likes Costa. Carna is so expensive it’s infuriating. Point being - don’t bother with a fancy restaurant every night - just do Pizza Lab and then one splurge.

3. Get the refillable soda cup the first day and keep at it.

4. Bring refillable water bottles for the water stations.

5. Bring wine and the rooms now all have mini fridges. Alcohol is insanely expensive (eg, at Carna, a bottle of Silver Oak is $600 and at other places, Whispering Angel is over $100). Stick to cocktails or bring your own from the states.

6. Bring breakfast snacks because the Starbucks line is awfully long.

Other than that - enjoy!

I was there in June. Felt like a carnival cruise on land. Food not great and expensive. Flamingos are fun. Rooms are fine. The hotel lobby is basically a casino. It was not my vibe at all, but people seemed to be having a good time.

Watch this, and it will give you all the context you need. Cruise ship on land. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt22640192/

We went over the holidays a few years ago. I generally agree it is a cruise ship on land but some people enjoy that. There was plenty of people watching and it was nice out on the beach. We had a suite and it was actually quite roomy and modern. Baha Mar is best for just a long weekend because the crowds and limited food options will get you.

We definitely did not like the indoor restaurant options. We ended up eating at the cute food trucks and poke bowl places outside. Reservations for the restaurants well beforehand are a must.

No need to rent chairs at the water park. Just go in and do a few slides and then walk back over to the main pool. Get to the pools early to grab a chair - no, don't reserve the chair and walk away - just get there early and read a book.

That said - definitely preferred Baha Mar to Atlantis (and we even stayed at the nice section there). I guess it's like Celebrity vs. Carnival cruises. Both are cruises but at different levels of service and clientele.

It’s like Las Vegas, but in the Bahamas. It’s a zoo. A lot to do for kids though. I wouldn’t go there if I didn’t have kids.
