Another gap year question (after being accepted by college)?

Anonymous
Has anyone had experience with this situation:

You get accepted into college A and college B. You decline college B, but you request and get approved for a 1 year gap year with college A. During the gap year, you decide that you would rather attend college B. Is it okay to decline college A during the approved gap year? Will a college that YOU turned down allow you to reapply? Or will you immediately go into the reject pile because you had declined the school? Essentially, can you change your mind about the school that you were planning to attend during your gap year? I know that I will need to contact the schools directly since every school has different policies, but has anyone had any simliar experiences?

I don’t know. But my guess is you would lose deposit made to A. You would have to re-apply from scratch to B. And use an essay to explain how gap year experience renewed your interest in B. That’s my guess, so take it as such.

This scenario is probably rare enough that you won’t get any real insight from people’s experience, but you’d certainly have to reapply at B (or any other school if you decided against A), so do that and have an acceptance in hand before you back out of A. You will lose your deposit. But if the money’s not an issue, it doesn’t hurt to try.

Just go to college.
