Do you have a pool table?

Anonymous
Looking for recs and good/ bad experiences with adding a pool table to a basement. We have an unfinished area that we’ve cleaning up (painted open ceiling, added rugs) and I think it could work for games and some hanging out. Wondering if a pool table makes sense or if it’s hard to get a good one for a reasonable price- could also do foosball table and some seating?

It’s a small house in DC, so it’s not a massive basement.

Sorry I sent the previous message- we have one left by the previous owners, it was more costly to move it, so they left it. I think its a very bad use of space, but you can find even free ones if you can afford the transportation cost

Agree that you can basically get them for the price of moving.

We had a pool table for about ten years. We got it used for next to nothing and gave it away when we moved and the new people didn't want it.

There is a guy in the DC area who specializes in moving pool tables. I wish I could remember his name. I'm pretty sure I found him through a Google search. Coincidentally, the people who took our table also independently found him. I think his name is Chris but don't hold me to that.

He is great. He knows his stuff, moves the tables quickly and safely and sets them up perfectly. For us, he went the extra mile: we showed him a few tables we were interested in on Craigslist and he advised us which one he thought was best. Then he took a check from us to the seller when he went to pick up the table. Just a very nice and helpful guy. I don't remember what he charged but it was very reasonable.

We have one and play now and again but it got almost daily use during covid. It's a great way to hang out with my teen kids.

It does need a fair amount of space around it.

We’ve had one for a few
Decades. They take a lot of room. But
My family
Likes it.

If you like pool, definitely get one. If you buy it used, hire a local pool table store to move it for you and set it up. A foosball table is a nice compliment and doesn't take up much room.

I’d like a pool table but we have a big long table and love that.
