What is up with Oyster not making AYP two years in a row? What group is failing? |
Pretty severe drops at all the schools I've looked at so far. |
It's important to understand that AYP is a moving target. The percentage of students that need to be proficient in reading and math increases every year. Eventually, if NCLB isn't revised or discarded, nearly every school in the U.S. will fail to meet AYP, because, despite what you hear about Lake Wobegon, there is no school where all of the children are above average. |
Unless, of course, DC lowers the standard (or cut score) for proficiency. |
Which is what they did in New York. |
Oyster's special education students has increased. If you look at the scores w/o that cohort, it's actually fine. |
Perhaps they should be euthanized. |
Yes, scores appear generally to be down, even among well-off kids at "good" schools. Maybe it's because drill-and-kill can boost test scores in the short term but as it's sustained the effect fades and then even reverses? Who ever could have imagined such a thing? |
Perhaps we need to refine our definition of what a good school is. |
Oyster's principal is a failure, cronyism is not exclusive to Fenty. Rhee's crony Liang-Aguirre should be let go, no way around it. The scores or yet simply another example of why this principal leaves so many parents unsatisified and transferring out of the once-great flagship DC school. |
What if you got a new principal that you liked who wasn't a Rhee crony and the scores went down again? |
Was that supposed to be funny? |
Ha! Impossible! "Scores going down" is a *bad* thing. Badness is the presence of Evil and an absence of Good. Since Rhee is the embodiment of all Evil in the universe, where her presence to be removed from this city, Badness would be impossible, and all things would be Good once more. QED. |
Simply pointing out the absurdity of NCLB and our obsession with test results. |
