ECNL roster size & cost question

Does the cost of the roster spot go down with 28 players vs 20 players?

20 players = $4,000 per person
28 players = $2,900 per person

I would be down for a 28 person roster on a Senior girls team with most girls already committed, no need to play every game every minute, save some for college.

I assume the answer is NO

No because clubs want that $! If they could get 30 players to sign up on every team from U13-U18/19, they would (despite only being able to dress 18 for a game). There is no shortage of players/parents who are chasing a badge (ECNL or GA) and willing to pay just to be able to say that they’re on said team, though.

Like all products in the marketplace, price is set by what customers are willing to pay. Not by the actual cost. The cost of the drink you buy at a stadium has nothing to do with how much it actually costs.

Of course, the cost will not go down regardless of the number of players on the roster. These clubs are a nonprofit, therefore any profit they have will go to the board members.

No that’s not how it works. Profits go back to the organization not to the board members. Of course, the board members get to decide how to spend the profits. But in reality there are endless things they want to spend more on (club marketing, more coaches, better fields, better website and registration system) so maximizing profits is always the objective.

It’s also rumored that “sometimes” they vote to increase their own compensation, too!

Board members are not paid at area clubs.

Some of them very definitely are! If you don’t believe me, take a look at some of their 990s.

There are endless things they SHOULD spend the money on, like more coaches, better fields but the fact is those things are last on their list of priorities.

I have no problem with board members getting paid for doing a job. At least with nonprofits it's all out in the open in their 990s and if they do something completely inappropriate it will be seen and cause enough outrage to remove them.

Has anyone started a list of fees for 24-25?

Would like to compare what clubs around the area are charging.

I probably should have added that what you get for the cost, though. It really seems to differ by club. Sorry.
