Hi!
I would like to know what people think about Coolidge (Capital City PCS), if lottery results are not what I would hope for. We are IB. Thanks! |
| Which do you mean? Coolidge HS is a DCPS school. Capital City PCS is a public charter school. In the same neighborhood, but not the same and you could be IB for Coolidge but not for CCPCS. |

Basic info:
https://www.myschooldc.org/schools/profile/27 Less than 10% kids getting 4s or 5s in Math, Around 20% getting 4s or 5s in ELA. 69% kids at risk 45% with disabilities 71.5% of students were chronically absent, meaning they missed more than 10 percent of school days. 40.5% of students from the class 2024 of were enrolled in post-secondary programs within 12 months of graduation. https://schoolreportcard.dc.gov/lea/1/school/455/report |
I assume they mean if they don't get into capcity. |
| Well those are two entirely different schools, for starters... |

OP Here. Got confused with the map. My ddepest apologies.
The question is about Cooldige |
I see the numbers, but I want to know if a good student can do well and itif it is safe |

Coolidge Early College is a top contender for us. 8th grade EOTP middle schooler with top grades and scores; we ranked Banneker, Walls, Coolidge Early College, McK Tech and know of other families that have had their children (good students, not just by DCPS standards) succeed in this program.
Neighborhood way more chill than Roosevelt. I would've considered it a top contender, I just am not sure about Trinity. I have half a sense it's only meh as a college experience goes. |

There have been a few shootings in the last year in the near vicinity of school. I remember one day where the kids all went on lockdown. Then there was another one where the "SafeStreets" (or whatever that program is called) person was shot.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/01/30/shooting-safe-passage-dc-coolidge-high-school/ https://www.fox5dc.com/news/3-dc-schools-on-lockdown-during-shots-fired-investigation-northwest I personally don't find that safe, but others on this board will claim that because the shooting wasn't INSIDE the school, that it has nothing to do with the school. |
We live one block away. My wife and I were talking tonight on our walk how safe we feel and how much we love our neighborhood. Reality is > randos who live in fear online |

Student robbed at gunpoint outside of Coolidge (different from the other two incidents):

I also live in the neighborhood, and won't walk after dark. I am increasingly hesitant to do that during the day, given the types of incidents frequently described in the papers. |

Oh cool more robberies of students:

I have lived in the neighborhood for 13 years. Yes there have been some crime but the area is generally pretty safe and I walk around with my young child day and night with no concerns. We walk and bike to school in the neighborhood. Come visit the neighborhood and see how you feel. |
