DS being bullied. DH was a bully. Is this karma?

Anonymous
Pretty much what the title says. Our kid is 9 and has been a victim of bullying for the past few years. He’s everything DH wasn’t. Small, skinny, not athletic, socially awkward and introverted. DH is convinced it’s his karma for picking on kids like DS when he was growing up. I didn’t meet DH until we were adults and he had outgrown these behaviors but he still had a lot of guilt.

There is no such thing as “karma”.

So maybe your husband has ideas on how your kid can get the bully to stop.

This is a good book for younger children than your son. Although it encourages kids to rely on grownups. And frankly, grownups don't always come through for bullied kids.

You can’t get a bully to stop. You can only avoid contact or hope to be overshadowed by a new target.

Not karma, but get your kid in TKD.

Agree. Any martial art that he likes. It will increase his confidence and help him defend himself if needed.

And if there are, it wouldn’t work like this.

A small kid telling a big kid that they know Karate is going to get a beating.

I’d reframe it, since he has so much guilt. Maybe he was meant to use his experience to help his kid.

Not karma. Karma is the idea that your actions in your past life determine your present life (I’m sure I’m glossing it over)

If you’re going to ascribe some sort of theological blame - it would either be a vengeful god who has no problem punishing children for their father’s sins OR something your son did in a past life.

Put your kid in martial arts, boxing, or wrestling. Size matters less than you think.

Yeah, that's because karate is basically just dance

But get the kid on the mat with a wrestling or BJJ program and its different.

+1000. Please do not go the martial arts route. Just looking to get him bludgeoned.

I disagree but karma goes to the person who deserves the karma. You think Trump isn't reaping karma now. He is humiliated and that's karma!

Why turn this post into politics? Go somewhere else.

Thats still a bully mentality. Its not about him but about his kid.
