What did I just witness? History. Quad Axel, plus six other quads, a 3A/3A combo…was that real?! Final combined score of 333 and change. Insane. Absolute insanity.
Not to mention fellow American Jason Brown at 5th with not a single quad; a testament to his consummate artistry and the grade of execution of what he can do. He’s the elder statesman that the crowd adores because he skates with his heart, and his artistry is simply unmatched. No question, the artist of his generation. So proud of Team USA at this World’s. Silver for Isabeau Levito, gold for Chock and Bates. I’m so excited for Deanna Stellato-Dudek, who at *40* claimed gold with her pairs partner. Unreal. My knees don’t work just walking and swimming, and here she is on top of the podium. Amazing. She’s the oldest world champion in any figure skating discipline. What a World Championships, seriously amazing. |
| Deanna Stellato-Dudek of Canada, I should have said |
| It will surely be on YouTube soon but if you want to watch it now: https://x.com/skatingarchive/status/1771717437945155819?s=20 |
| The top performance in figure skating history just happened tonight - and it was from a DC area teenager (Vienna, VA - Marshall HS graduate). So cool and so very happy for him. |
| It was amazing! I believe they said it was the highest free skate score ever. Tara and Johnny were so blown away that they were almost speechless. |
| So what does this mean for my brackets? |
| It was overall a really good championship. Chock and Bates were amazing. |
| I find it very fascinating that he has a bit of a Russian accent. I wonder if it's because he spends so much time with his parents who are his coaches. |
He is from our area, he’s a World Champion, first to land 4A, born in Fairfax, VA. And you are “fascinated” that the son of immigrant parents has an accent? THAT is what is fascinating to you about this accomplished young man? Wowie zowie, the son of immigrants who speaks both English and Russian (how many languages do you speak fluently, by the way) has a bit of an accent? Might as well be “fascinated” that water is wet. Congratulations to Virginia’s own Ilia Malinin! |
Wow so triggered his parents are Uzbek |
| I will have to watch him! Had only heard about Stellato-Dubek which was the most exciting news to me, I am in total awe of her. |
Wow that was really impressive, way to go! I don't follow figure skating but did when I was a kid and know enough to know that was really amazing. Also, I feel it is important to point out that he is skating to the theme music from Succession, which is hilarious and also worked really well! |
Yes, and? He was born in Virginia. Why are you acting like he’s not a “real” American because he has immigrant parents? |
Wow! Thanks for sharing the link. |
| Yeah 🇷🇺 |
