Will movie theaters let you come in and just buy concessions?

Weird question. We received gift cards to a theater chain we don’t patronize because they’ve yet to upgrade their theaters (sound system/seats) in our area and we use a different chain that has. I was wondering if they’d let me come in and just buy concessions like candy and bottled beverages that my kids can eat over spring break. I DID try calling yesterday but could never get ahold of an actual person. I won’t waste time driving there if you all don’t think they’ll allow this.

Yes.

If they won’t, maybe just buy a matinee ticket and cut your (small) loss to spend the rest of the cards and then leave with your bounty.

Omg - just suck it up and go to the movie there.

You’ll probably be the first person in human history to do this but I don’t see why not

If the concession stand is before you get to the ticket taker, then I would say yes. Go online and look for a floorpan of the theater. Many show not only the seats, but the lobby as well.

I think nobody ever does this because everyone knows insanely priced concessions are how they make their money. That said, I can’t imagine anyone having a problem with it.

My in-laws do this all the time. They pick up popcorn for their at home movie nights, probably once a month.

Some theaters check your ticket before you reach the concessions, so maybe call ahead to check. Movie theaters make little money on the actual ticket sales— most of their money comes from concessions. So I don’t see why they’d deny you.

DP, but with a rude as people are now (like you??) I definitely don't go to a theater that hasn't been upgraded.

Absolutely. I used to buy popcorn all the time.

Yes! You should have no problem.

I don't like old theatres either but I'm so cheap I'd balk at wasting the money on the concessions unless you REALLY LIKE their popcorn. I'd probably try to regift, or I'd just drop off/pick up the kids for movies/spend it on them.

They haven't upgraded their seats so you don't go there? Does the movie playing there not constitute a draw independent of how cush the seats are?

I guess not. So weird.

How much and which chain

I suspect so. My in laws have had Uber Eats deliver enormous bags of movie theater popcorn for home movie nights. 🙄
