Name change while onboarding

Anonymous
I got married recently and began the process to change to husbands last name. My social security card is updated but my other forms of ID have my maiden name. out of the blue I received an amazing job offer and have started on boarding. how do I handle the fact that I have two different last names on my documents? Will this create a problem for HR?

How quickly can you rum to the DMV and change your driver's license? You usually need license + SS card, or passport. Passport obviously takes longer, but DMV may be able to give you a provisional license, so I'd focus on that. Bring your marriage certificate for your first day too in case they're dubious.

As HR or the person handling your onboarding.

You need to tell HR you are in the process of changing your name and if necessary take a day to finish doing paperwork and such so things aren’t in limbo. I changed my name a year into my marriage - after the birth of my first child - right as I changed jobs.

Take Monday off if you have to and finish changing your name everywhere. It will take a couple of months before you start at your new job. You should have new documents with your new name by then.
