11 year old complains her teeth are yellow

At what age is it ok to offer teeth whitening strips?

My 11 year old DD is otherwise not even remotely preoccupied with her appearance, and if anything is anti-girly. But she’s mentioned several times to me that she wishes her teeth weren’t so yellow. I’ve told her that her teeth are beautiful and look like teeth naturally look, and that many adults actually have to whiten their teeth to get them the white that she sees.

But I’m wondering if I should just let her use crest white strips if it’s bothering her so much.

Thoughts?

She’s my oldest so I haven’t dealt with any of these beauty issues yet….

Wait until she’s the proper age and let the dentist whiten them.

I’d start with a conversation with your dentist. My 13-year-old’s baby teeth were bright white. Her adult teeth are not terribly white, though she has great oral hygiene (according to the dentist), and doesn’t drink teas or dark sodas that could stain. Our dentist says that they are fine and not stained, but the color difference is noticeable to my daughter because she was likely used to the bright white teeth for so long.

Looking more closely, I can see that her teeth are a similar shade as DH’s. The difference is that DH has darker skin, so I think his just naturally look brighter due to the contrast.

That said, I did have a friend whose son’s adult teeth grew in very yellow. It was thought to be due to the many, many times he’d had to be on antibiotics when very young.

Just get a whitening mouthwash, that will help some.

dentists recommend waiting until children are at least 14 years old before considering teeth whitening for kids.

Strips can be really bad for your enamel and cause problems over time.

Has she tried a whitening toothpaste with baking soda?

whitening strips won't solve the problem. this is very different from teeth that get stained over time.

the problem is, likely, that her enamel is too thin/translucent. this can't really be fixed though there is some chance her enamel will thicken over the next few yers and cover the yellow base (that we all have) better.

My dd is 8 and had pearly white baby teeth. All her new teeth are so yellow! She has great dental hygiene and only drinks water so we can’t figure out the yellow. I’ve too been wondering what do to about it. Whitening toothpaste?

Are they whiter after the dentist polishes them. My 10 year old’s are. I bet some rude kid made a comment about her teeth and that’s why she is hung up on it.

My DC had nice white teeth and they have been badly discolored by braces. Dentist has said we can do whitening treatments once the adult teeth are fully grown in probably around age 16 or 17.
