online Health - spring 2024

Would anyone be able to tell me about online Health A that's currently happening?
https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/onlinelearning/courses/health/

My child is signed up for Health B (starts after spring break), and I'm curious about both the courseload (hrs per wk) and the webinar sessions (do they last the entire 1.5 hrs, or are they shorter). He took A one summer which was manageable. He has 4 AP exams + a spring sport, and I'm wondering if it's going to be too much.

Thanks!

My son is just finishing up online health A and it has been a breeze. He knocks out the assignments easily during the week and they all seem to be graded for completion. The zoom webinars mainly seem to require him logging in. I can't believe he's getting a semester credit for this, really, but he's delighted to get it over and done with.

My DD is in health A right now and rarely is she online for more than 30 minutes of the 90 minute class period.

My DD did this in the fall and most classes lasted close to the time scheduled and she had several hours per week of assignments which were not all graded leniently. It was not hard but did take some time. May depend some on the teacher.

Weird. My child is also finishing up Health A right now and is "online" for most of the 90 minutes. Maybe 75 out of the 90, typically?

At any rate, it's a fair amount of work even for a well-organized kid, but absolutely doable. The teacher sends out a weekly update on grades, which is great because it would be easy for a kid to fall behind and for parents not to know until late in the game.

What are the hours of the school year virtual class?

5-6:30 on Wednesday or Thursday.

I agree it has been a bit more work than I expected. I’m not sure if the same teacher teaches both nights/both sections.

OP here with an update.

The class was very manageable even with a sport and a rigorous courseload. There were only a couple of longer assignments. Kid is happy not to have this during the school year or over the summer.

Am glad he decided to do it in the spring!

Question for you. I'm having a lot of trouble arranging our vacation around the many things my kids are doing this summer. I think I'm going to end up having my kid zoom in from Europe for the last session of Health B. Manageable, right?

I'm a little concerned that the connection won't be good, but figure she could use her phone if nothing else. And in Health A, the last session was basically the only one where they required cameras on, to demonstrate CPR. So wondering if there are any surprises that last session of Health B.

That’s good info re: Health A. Mine will be doing the last session from the beach this summer, oh well!

OP here. Yes, very manageable as almost all of the work was asynchronous. No surprises in Health B. My kid completed the final assessment during the last session of class, but he may have been able to do it earlier. I'm not 100% sure if it was an in-class assignment or not. The teacher had breakout rooms and checked in on the students.

The spring B had 7 synchronous sessions.

Is there a cost to taking online health in the fall or spring?
I know there is a cost for the summer version this year.

My kid also did the spring Health B session. The final assessment opened up a couple of days before the last session; my kid did it on the 5/14 day off, but I know others did it during the final session of class. Most of the synchronous sessions ended early, too.

There was no cost this year, but I don't think they've announced anything for next year.
