VA safety inspection waiver for college student living out of state?

Anonymous
My college student has their car with them and will be driving home for the summer in late May. Safety inspection expires April 1st. Is there a form or process for a waiver for college students living out of state? I can’t find anything online!

Just get it done when they get back. If they're out of state they won't be getting a ticket for an expired VA safety inspection.

You just do it when the car is back in the state

I always wait until the next month following expiration to get my car inspected. 13 months for the price of 12. 😂

If you like, you can request a one-month extension for car registration. I went to a DMV select location because there was no line, and it cost something like $10.

True. One special case caveat, military bases usually will not let such a vehicle on base even if OOS. They want to see both current license plates and a current safety inspection. Been there, learned that the hard way. (Yes, the gate guards had a list of states which do not require any safety inspection.)
