Both are problems. Acting as though crimes like rampant shoplifting don't affect the quality of life in neighborhoods that are heavily black and hispanic is not helpful to the people trying to live peaceful, law-abiding lives in those neighborhoods (which is over 99% of the people who live there).

Nice takedown and restraint. Sadly shoplifter will become part of the catch and release program. Good Samaritan will most likely wind up with assault charges rather than a commendation by the police and mayor/city council.

If he broke the law then why shouldn’t he be prosecuted? You seem to have some sort of bias. You call for deference towards a violent criminal while advocating for harsh punishment of a thief.
