All DD8's swimsuits are hand-me-downs from older cousins that she's been wearing for two years. In preparation for our spring break trip I just had her try them on and they're all way too small. So we are getting her: 3 one pieces, two rash guards, and two tankinis (two pieces that aren't bikinis?). $348. I am in sticker-shock!
We can afford it, and this is literally the first time I'm buying her swimsuits in her life and she's at the small end of the size range of what she's getting so all combined, it's fine. But I had no idea they could be so expensive! |
| You can buy those for under $15 each. Like many things, it's all about choices. |
| You don’t need 5 swim suits. DS has 2 swim suits and 2 rash guards. We rinse one out and let it dry a day. We could probably get by with just one but this makes life a bit easier. |
| You don’t need 5. Buy 2 and alternate them. |
| Where the heck are you buying your kids swimwear? Even at Biden (which I consider on the pricy end, though quality is good) that would wind up being like $200-250. And yes, PP is right-- if you shop sales and use brands like Carter's/Target/Old Navy, you could buy it all plus a pair of sandals and a coverup for a little over $100. |
| You need one swimsuit, not 20. |
Agree with this. We usually have three in rotation because in some locations it's hard to get it dried in a day, plus I like having one cheap one piece set aside for indoor swim lessons in the super coordinated pool - in the summer we will often do a morning swim lesson and afternoon at the public pool multiple days a week. But we'd spend $60, tops for all three suits. |
OP here. We shopped at Athleta Girl. We looked at Old Navy and Target, but only found two DD was okay with, but not enthusiastic about. After spending her whole life just accepting what she was given, I thought it'd be nice for her to get to choose and be enthusiastic about them. |
Ok but then your post is wrong. If it were me, I'd buy her one suit she was really excited about from Athleta Girl as a treat, especially since she'd relied on hand-me-downs in the past. But then I'd get two more, max, at lower price points. We often buy suits from this brand on Amazon to wear to swim team or swim lessons, and DD's team friends all love them so much that now they all get them as practice suits: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08RQTW9L8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title |
| Did you not look at the price tags? |
| So your subject should be: "Yikes! Athlete Girl is expensive!" |
I just put things in the cart that caught her eye and then looked at the total. We can go back and remove things if it's too much. Again, swinging the price isn't a problem - I'm just surprised as I've never purchased these before. |
| Yikes! Spoiling children with unnecessary purchases is expensive! |
So why do you need 5? Have her pick her favorite 2. |
Lol, it's strategic - she's the oldest of three girls. |
