For Those Incoming Catholic 9th Graders to Catholic School - Confirmation

Did your child or will they have received their confirmation before they begin school in the Fall?

Our K-8 school does confirmation in the fall of the 8th grade year, so my ds is already confirmed.

I have an 8th grader going through Confirmation prep. The actual confirmation itself won’t take place until next fall.

Diocese of Arlington assigns dates to parishes for confirmations.

Our k-8 gets a spring date for confirmation. There was a brief moment where the priest wanted to move it to fall of 9th grade and people freaked out. We wanted it done in 8th grade.

My 8th grader is doing to prep now and will make his confirmation this fall (beginning of 9th).

I believe all of Arlington does Conformation in 8th.

Our very best Covid gift: pastor confirmed the 8th graders 3 days after graduation in June 2020. No sponsors required to be in attendance, no packed church on a random Thursday night service, no after party requirements, service hours requirement was waived (although most kids had met it), no obligatory bishopy things. It was glorious.

As I recall, Arlington briefly switched confirmation to 9th, I assume in efforts to keep the high schoolers in the system. But all the parents of the k-8 families revolted. And confirmation went back to 8th grade.

Don't most DC schools do it in 8th? I know BSS does.

Incorrect. I’m the PP who said our Arlington parish confirmation isn’t until fall of 9th.

We’re in Arlington. DS is in 8th grade at public but will be attending Catholic HS in the fall. He is making his confirmation with his Faith Formation class this fall.
