Middle school magnet - choice and criteria lottery

Anonymous
Did anyone who didn't get in when the results were mailed in Jan get in later?

My kid was in wait list for criteria based. Should I still hold hope? Upper county.

My kid got in for a choice magnet over the summer, after not getting in the first or second rounds of the lottery.

There is definitely hope. At the open house we attended, we were told they had 50-something unfilled slots.

Forgot to add that this is a criteria-based magnet.

We know a family that got a spot the week before school started in August last year

We got a spot at the elementary CES a week before school started in Aug, and then got a spot for the criteria based middle school program in late Feb. I believe anytime someone declines, a new name is drawn from the waitlist.

How is that possible to have so many unfilled positions…..there are only around 60 people in the whole program per year at Clemente middle school.

I would operate under the assumption that your child is not getting a spot and move on.

There is definitely hope, but I would not count on it. We are downcounty and kid was waitlisted for both Eastern and Takoma programs last year. We never got off the waitlists. But we do know some people who did over the summer and even in the fall.
