Is this normal or am I subconsciously trying to make an excuse to not run? I live in a nice neighborhood but I dread running it over and over and over. It's like torture. But I also hate the idea of driving to different places to get a 5k to 10k run in for a unique setting. |
If you hate running you should not do it. |
Go for an evening jog in a DC neighborhood wearing a Canada Goose jacket. It will give you a unique experience. |
Drive somewhere nearby to switch it up.

time yourself on the same route each week and try to get faster
listen to different music or podcasts do you know someone with an energetic dog? take it on a run! go somewhere else occasionally run the same loop but backwards do intervals and speedwork swap one run a week with a different workout or class basically just add some variety to your workout! |
Go to a trail! Neighborhoods are awful to run, breathing exhaust from passing cars you're trying to dodge. Surround yourself with nature, it's good for you. |
Do you have ADHD by any chance? I do, and I loathe running for this very reason. I get bored out of my mind, and feel like a hamster on a wheel pretty much wherever I am, but certainly on the boring suburban streets of NoVA. |
I got really bored during the pandemic, and decided to go to every different subdivision in my area, for the same reason. It kept my exercise going. |
I get bored running the same loop in my neighborhood too. I try to mix it up by taking different streets but it tends to feel the same. |
It is worth driving for 5 minutes to jog in a different neighborhood. |
Driving to a different neighborhood is weird and unsafe. And will make your car and driver's seat smelly from the sweat. |
Find a wooded trail to run on. |
