| Given deposits are due tomorrow on the 15th, will “waitlist calls” start today? Tomorrow? Saturday? Or not until next week? Looking for a timeline from those who’ve successfully gotten off waitlists. |

I realize that you’re not asking this directly, but please understand that waitpool movement only happens when a school has majorly over-anticipated yield. They have years of historical data on the % likely to accept admission and admit accordingly.
Waitpool movement happens - particularly at the very large Catholic schools. But, it’s not a function of X people not paying a deposit so X slots open up. At the schools that are oft discussed on this board, waitpool movement is exceptionally rare. |
Framed in these terms (“majorly over-anticipated yield,” “exceptionally rare”), this is simply not true. We know several people who have gotten off the waitlist in recent years at both Sidwell and GDS. But the point I think you are going for is valid. No one should get their hopes up because you likely have hundreds of people on the WL for what are likely to be a small number of spots. And those spots are unlikely to go to randos and more likely to go to K-8 schools that have a strong connection with the HS. In other words, you should have your school lobby on your behalf if you want any shot. |
Thank you. OP here. I should have added to my post that I know that it's very unlikely and extremely rare to get off the waitlists and my hopes are not too up , and doing just fine. I was just curios if in the extremely rare case schools go to the waitlist, is it more often on or about the 15th. |
| I think the timing varies. If a school knows today based on returns that they have a seat, they'll probably move forward. If they don't know until the end of the day on Friday, they may wait until next week or if next week is their spring break, not until they return. There's no real way to predict when movement will happen, if it does. |

We got an offer a few days before the contracts were due 5-6 years ago. Basically I think it depends on when other admitted students turn down their offers. Some wait until the last minute and some do it right away.
In our experience, the schools try to fill in those spots right away. |
Do you mind sharing which school? |
This happens at all schools - including top ones like Sidwell, STA/NCS, GDS (we have seen it). Some could happen this week, some next week, some over the Spring, some right at the 5/31 contract deadline. They try to fill an open spot quickly - so expect most movement based on the 3/15 deadline since so many people are in play for that date and then again a few at 5/31. But in between, schools cannot control or predict when/if spots open up. |
